Developing Career Clarity and Stronger Boundaries With A Rapidly Advancing Underrepresented Leader

 
 

Anna had worked for foundry10 since their inception and as the organization quickly grew, had moved into an executive position helping flatten the organization and distribute decision making. Identifying as a person with a disability affected her ability to set healthy work boundaries. Additionally, she realized that while she loved her work, she hadn’t thought about her long term leadership and career development strategically.

How We Helped

We crafted a series of four sessions to playfully explore interpersonal scenarios and build a career strategy and development plan.

 
 

Intake & Intention Setting

After establishing upfront intentions for her self awareness, wellbeing, and career, we decided to focus on developing a career development plan as well as strengthen her core leadership competencies creatively.

Exploring Leadership Landscape

Jyoti worked with Anna to explore the facets of her intersectional identity and how they impact her learned feelings of powerfulness and powerlessness. A variety of creative tools were used including meditative and artful visioning, journaling using Ikigai prompts, and roleplaying interpersonal conversations.

Deeper Career Exploration & Roadmapping

Jyoti used a holistic coaching approach that emphasized the importance of boundaries to protect Anna’s health and wellness. Jyoti led Anna through a career exploration exercise which provided 3 possible career paths that aligned with Anna’s vision, and the corresponding skills for each one.

Ritual and Habit Design

To close out the series, the outcomes from all four sessions were delivered in a 6 page career development plan document. Additionally, a simple ritual was developed that included sharing career progress with an accountability partner at regular intervals.

 Our Results

 

Jyoti and Anna worked together to create a documented career development roadmap, which included 3 potential career paths, and a skills development plan.

01. Anna developed an increased sense of confidence and power in her personal and professional relationships.

02. Anna learned habits and developed a ritual to help her commit to a rhythm of action moving forward.

03. Anna approached Jyoti 6 months later as she had decided to return to university and Jyoti helped her cultivate a personal statement resulting in acceptance to her desired program.
